I noticed after a trip to Blockbuster how many film titles change from America to Brazil. In my estimation about half of them alter the meaning. For example (and translations may not be exact but you get the idea):
Saw --> Jogos Mortais ("Deadly Games")
Garden State --> Hora De Voltar ("Time To Return")
Primal Fear --> As Duas Faces De Um Crime ("The Two Faces Of A Crime")
Meet The Parents --> "Entrando Numa Fria" (expression for "Getting in Trouble")
Lucky Number Slevin --> Xeque-Mate ("Check-Mate")
50 First Dates --> Como Se Fosse A Primeria Vez ("Like It Was The First Time")
Charlie's Angels --> As Panteras ("The Panthers")
Ocean's 11 --> Onze Homens E Um Segredo ("11 Men & One Secret")
Peaceful Warrior --> Poder Além Da Vida ("Power Beyond Life")
Failure To Launch --> Armações Do Amor ("Love Trap")
The Nightmare Before Christmas --> O Estranho Mundo De Jack ("Jack's Strange World")
Inside Man --> O Plano Perfeito ("The Perfect Plan")
The Portuguese versions usually were more basic about the plot. I prefer the more creative titles.
